Our Portfolio

The Christian Aid Resilient Futures Fund invests through a diversified, blended portfolio, designed to balance impact, risk, and long-term sustainability.
We deploy capital in three complementary ways:
Investing through established impact fund managers
A significant portion of CARFF’s capital is invested through experienced impact investment managers, including BlueOrchard and Talanton. These partners bring deep regional expertise, strong pipelines, and proven track records in financing climate-resilient and inclusive enterprises.
-
BlueOrchard provides access to diversified portfolios of loans through regulated financial institutions and funds, supporting climate-smart agriculture, financial inclusion, and resilient livelihoods at scale.
-
Talanton focuses on direct equity and growth investments in African enterprises with high job creation and inclusion potential, often taking a hands-on, long-term approach to enterprise development.
Investing through these partners allows CARFF to deploy capital efficiently, diversify risk across countries and sectors, and achieve early impact while building its own direct investment capacity.
<<< Successful businesses require the right skills, that's why CARFF support enterprise through technical assistance and business support.
Making known and selected direct investments
Alongside fund manager investments, CARFF makes a growing number of direct investments into locally led, climate-resilient enterprises. These are typically small and medium-sized businesses that fall into the “missing middle”: too large for microfinance, but underserved by commercial banks.
Direct investments may include:
-
Concessional or low-interest loans
-
Revenue-based or quasi-equity instruments
-
Patient capital structured to reflect real operating conditions
These investments are often accompanied by technical assistance and longer-term partnership, enabling enterprises to grow sustainably and create decent jobs.
Climate change and global food shortages create a high demand for climate resilient agriculture and affordable food production >>>

Blended and catalytic capital across the portfolio
Across both fund-managed and direct investments, CARFF uses blended finance approaches. Philanthropic and concessional capital is used to absorb risk, lower the cost of capital for enterprises, and crowd in additional co-investment.
Financial returns are recycled back into the Fund, strengthening an evergreen pool of capital that can be reinvested repeatedly over time.
Together, this portfolio approach allows CARFF to combine scale and depth, professional fund management and local enterprise support, ensuring capital reaches where it can deliver the greatest long-term resilience and impact.
<<< Investing in value addition and mechanisation are key to scalable food solutions
